Nansi Ellis

Nansi is a policy specialist, having spent over 30 years working within education.

She was a primary teacher, in West Wales and London, before moving into education policy, working on primary assessment and co-developing the first Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum at the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA).

She led the policy team at the ATL for five years, before leading the first education policy and research department for the NEU. She developed and facilitated working groups and Commissions for both unions, developing policy on early years, pupil voice, and teacher professionalism. As an education policy consultant she provides advice on developing, implementing and evaluating policy to clients including The Chartered College of Teaching, Edge Foundation, ASCL and Camden Learning, as well as facilitating commissions including the Teaching Commission.

She has written two books, including the recent Improving Education Policy Together, and is a Trustee for Culham St Gabriel’s and the Association for Citizenship Teaching, governor at a  primary school and a leader with Girlguiding. She’s an avid knitter who increasingly goes off-pattern, and enjoys running. She’s also a fluent Welsh speaker.
