Naomi Westland

Senior Associate - Strategy and campaigns - London, UK

With 20 years experience in journalism, communications and campaigns, Naomi’s work has connected human rights, media, sport, the arts and activism. Having started her career in local journalism, she worked across news, features and documentaries for national and international outlets including the Guardian, Telegraph, El Pais and USA Today. 

She spent over a decade at Amnesty International UK, leading on media work for refugee rights, women’s rights, sport and human rights and human rights in Europe and Latin America. She created Amnesty’s flagship Football Welcomes programme from scratch, which transformed the organisation’s presence within the UK’s national sport, and helped create welcoming environments for thousands of refugees. 

She led a large team supporting Amnesty’s activist groups in local communities, schools and universities; campaigning networks focussed on issues such as women’s and LGBTQ+ rights; and she oversaw the launch of anti-racism and disability rights networks. She has established innovative national and international alliances and partnerships at the forefront of driving human rights change. She is a trustee of The Launchpad Collective, a charity that supports refugees into employment. 

Naomi is a keen runner and cold water swimmer; with a passion for travel, reading, photography and Spanish and Latin American music.
