Agenda

Monthly round up

Strikes, strategies and storytelling success, here’s how we’ve set the agenda for 2024 this January.

As Society of Radiographers members in Northern Ireland went on strike along with other public sector workers, Adi Bloom helped secure media coverage on how the lack of professionals is causing a huge rise in waiting lists.

Communications Strategy

We kicked off our work with Alzheimer’s Research UK, developing a comms strategy to reach and influence their various audiences. Watch out for more ideas and insight from Duncan Robertson and Vic Barlow on this exciting project to help the charity’s mission to find a cure for dementia.

 News Statesman podcast

Advances in genomic testing and other new technologies can dramatically improve cancer patient outcomes. But is the NHS ready to take advantage of this? Becky Slack hosted the New Statesman podcast, discussing the key issues with Karin Smyth, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, Professor Clare Turnbull of the Institute for Cancer Research, and Dr. Marc Moodley, Medical Director of Oncology for Daiichi Sankyo.

Fundraising PR

A mum fundraising to buy specialist equipment to help her daughter to learn to walk had a PR boost this month. CatherineCopper was hard at work with the Tree of Hope, helping them secure regional coverage.

Social media

Gesher School celebrated pupils’ achievements and demonstrated their unique educational approach, perfect material for Sarah Younger to turn into engaging social content. And, Vic Barlow has been helping Gesher leaders think through how to reach more parents who could benefit from the school’s teaching and learning.

Crisis Comms

Becky Slack joined Andy King and members of Fireside Fundraising’s Fuel community to talk all crisis comms. On the agenda was how to prep for and respond to crises, and what should be in the mop-up afterwards. If you could benefit from some support on crisis comms, check out how we helped Alzheimer’s Research UK

PR in EU

International Holocaust Remembrance Day on 27 January saw the launch of a new resource to protect sites where the Holocaust happened. We were proud to help the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance promote this valuable new resource across Europe.

Writing workshops

How to craft words that have impact was the focus of a recent WritingSkills workshop for World Habitat. Among the themes covered by Becky were the benefits of plain English, the role of metaphor in storytelling and ways to engage an audience so they keep on reading.

PR tips for small charities

If you work for a small charity and are in need of PR tips, check out this podcast featuring Becky Slack. She had a great time chatting to Stuart Chell about the role of media outreach in boosting fundraising, how to work effectively with journalists, and how to prep for comms crises.

And alongside of all this, with Matt Ball, Shamik Das and Paulina Lainez-Miccolo, we’ve been designing and implementing strategies to tackle tricky social challenges, helping organisations find great talent and welcoming new clients into the fold.
