Monthly round-up

Gearing up for a busy summer

Before out-of-offices kick in for the summer break, we’ve been getting things done. In July, we’ve helped with brand, marketing, member engagement, digital and data projects, and given serious thought to external positioning around education and aviation, as well as narratives to defuse the rhetoric of the far-right.

As part of our work with NASUWT, we’ve applied our Comms Lab approach to identify comms frames and tones of voice used by politicians and journalists around education policy, which will inform the union’s influencing activities.

Naomi Westland has developed position statements and messaging on key aviation topics to strengthen BALPA’s external profile, and we’ve helped celebrate significant legal wins on the right to strike and worker status. We also worked with The Guardian on this excellent piece. And on a lighter note, we set up an interview on BBC Radio Bristol with rep and retired pilot, Martin Drake, about whether pilots have a favourite plane. Listen here at 02.53.

We’re continuing one-to-one work with some brilliant individuals, helping build their confidence and sharpen their communication skills. Our coaching offers a reflective space to work through challenges, spot opportunities and grow as communicators.

Becky has been monitoring racist and anti-immigrant rhetoric and thinking about how to use the insights from our Changing hearts and minds event to help take the heat out of polarising conversations. She shares some thoughts here.

PR supremo Catherine Cooper has secured extensive regional coverage for Tree of Hope’s fundraising support for a family whose 21-month-old daughter Dusty has an extremely rare genetic condition.

July saw the publication of the government’s 10-year plan for the NHS. Adi Bloom worked with the Society of Radiographers to ensure we had a timely media response, and we’re planning further stories.

Digital guru Duncan Robertson has worked with Nautilus International during the final stages of its tender for a new website provider. Last month we held evaluation meetings with three shortlisted suppliers and we hope to announce details of the new partnership soon.

And with our partner Mark Watts, we’ve been tying up loose ends in Brussels ahead of the Parliamentary recess. We’ll be back in the European Quarter come September to meet key stakeholders from across the EU.

Finally, mindful that crises can hit at any time, we’re hosting an online #CrisisComms workshop on 17 Sept - bookings are open now.
