From airline pilots to radiographers, from crisis comms to policy debates, this April we’ve been busy helping different organisations with a range of comms activities. Not to mention preparing for our upcoming event, Changing hearts and minds – now just over a month away!
We’re delighted to announce the next two speakers for our Changing hearts and minds event on Weds 4 June. Steve Ballinger, comms director at British Future, and Faryal Iqbal, founder of Own Drum, will join Georgina Laming from Hope not Hate. Spotlighting voter motivations and countering harmful narratives, there are only 60 places – grab your ticket here.
Union support
We've been turning NASUWT's brand theory into practice via two workshops with the union’s staff. The first looked at recruiting and retaining members, anchoring messages in the issues that matter most to teachers; the second covered engaging and influencing external audiences, focusing on key education priorities and aligning the way NASUWT presents its work in the media with that of the government - a ‘framing’ analysis we explored through our Comms Lab.
Changing times at BALPA, the pilots’ union, with Vic helping general secretary Amy Leversidge recruit her next public affairs officer, while Agenda associates continue to support comms and campaigns and help implement a new CRM.
Events
Two significant events for the Society of Radiographers with a Parliamentary reception at the start of April to engage politicians on the future of the radiographer profession, and the annual conference at the end of the month, securing widespread media coverage on the role of male mammographers, and raising awareness of how AI can never replace human interactions.
Projects
Children’s charity Tree of Hope, which helps families raise money for children with health needs, hit the headlines again this month thanks to our PR guru Catherine Cooper. These hugely inspirational stories included mums tackling a zipwire and tandem skydive, and a nine-year-old running a mini-marathon!
We’ve been enjoying our work with a group of innovators and engineers, helping to shape a more supportive EU policy environment for the transition to net zero. Our goal is to tackle perverse incentives and ensure that emissions-reducing technologies are recognised and rewarded.
We’re supporting an excellent NGO, which is working within a particularly challenging environment, to develop a clear, practical crisis comms plan. The aim is to support the team's wellbeing and protect the work and reputation of the organisation, while at the same time ensuring a fast and accurate response – even when a situation is rapidly evolving.
Tackling child poverty was the focus of a Prospect event we helped curate in partnership with Trussell, Save the Children UK and Share Alliance. The conversation between Helen Barnard (Trussell), Alex Beer (Nuffield), Andrew Harrop (Public First), and Alan Rusbridger (Prospect) explored the current state of hardship facing families today and how the government can reduce child poverty over this Parliament.
We’re partnering with Unions21 to review and recommend ways to boost membership of Irish retail, bar and admin workers union, Mandate. Matt Ball will be starting with a look at member comms while Duncan Robertson will be exploring the best use of digital platforms.
Our expertise covers a wide range of industries and we’re proud to be able to support so many different organisations in their vital work across the UK and EU. If any of the above has whetted your appetite and you’d like our help, please get in touch.
